\r\n\tBackground
\r\n\r\n\t
\r\n\tThis longitudinal qualitative study uses life course theory along with a multi-pronged application of theories to understand the construction of cultural values concerning parenthood. The study examines the narratives of parenthood and the life histories of15 fathers an 15 mohers who have been part of a 30-year longitudinal study.
\r\n\t
\r\n\t
\r\n\tMethods
\r\n\t
\r\n\tThe project is drawn from a longitudinal design using qualitative semi-structured individual interviews, exploring experiences of parenthood, adaptations and coping in adulthood, and sources of support in the families of interview participants.

\r\n\tProject description
\r\n\t
\r\n\tThe attempt is to trace parental accounts (narratives) of what is like for study members to be mothers or fathers. Based on qualitative research, this project will explore how working-class mothers and fathers make sense of their lives with their children, how they position themselves within a concept of inequality and vulnerability, and how they resist, subvert and survive material and social marginalization.
\r\n\t
\r\n\t
\r\n\t
\r\n\tThe project will elaborate certain turning points in their adulthoods along with their transitions to parenthood. The participants all entered a state-initiated Child Welfare program as 15-year olds that was organized to investigate alternatives to imprisonment for adolescents with antisocial behavior.
\r\n\r\n\t
\r\n\tDrawing on Helgeland's longituinal study (Helgeland 1997; Helgeland 2001; Helgeland 2007), this project aims to bring to light new perspectives regarding the concept of parenthood within the participant group.
